Friday 22nd - Monday 25th March 2013
The next Warners gig I'll be
spinning my tunes will be at the above. The Stumble will be there
so it'll be nice to meet up with them again. Also on the bill is 16 year
old Alex McKown and his band. He has recently added sax and
keyboard to his line up and hopefully this inclusion will be on stage
for this event. For further detail check out the Boogaloo website

I've been dee-jaying and
emceeing these events for about seven years now at the Northern England
venues east and west of the Pennines.
Sometimes dubbed as 'Blues in
Comfort' gigs they definitely give you the chance to relax after the
night time live bands and after midnight jam sessions.
I get the opportunity to play
my vinyl during the three nights (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) that the
events cover ..... can be quite comical when a bit of 'bacon & egg'
comes through the speakers following the crisp sound of the previous
There may be some of you
reading this who already know me but if you don't and you're at one of
these events come up and say hello ..... I don't bite.

Recent Boogaloo weekend
BOOGALOO WEEKEND BLUES
FESTIVAL at PONTINS, PRESTATYN: September 2010
It's quite probable that this
event may turn out to be a 'one-off', which is a pity as on the whole
the musical content was of top quality - something for every taste.
Each night's headliners
didn't disappoint. Nicky Moore belting out his favourites as if he had
been re-born - I think he has had an upturn with his health, on Saturday
the soulful strains of Eugene "Hideaway" Bridges' voice could be heard
right into the adjacent rock'n'roll room, so much so that suddenly our
audience had swelled with what one of the punters called 'dancing
clowns'. The Sunday climaxed with UK favourite Sherman Robertson who's
performance was of the highest order.
Me and Sherman
A great weekend with good
attendances at the jam sessions led by Tim Aves. I've heard there may be
a "Pontins Blues at Lowestoft" in the future. If there is, let's hope
it's better attended.
Forthcoming Boogaloo weekend
BOOGALOO WEEKEND BLUES
FESTIVAL at ALVASTON HALL, CHESHIRE: March 2012
This brilliant weekend is
back with us again featuring amongst others the Spikedrivers
brand new Blues Roots Revue, harmonica whiz kid Giles Robson
& The Dirty Aces and headliner Chris Farlowe with The Norman
Beaker Band. With acoustic sets and jam sessions this will be
another great weekend.
Once again a line-up to look
forward to with one of my all time favourite U.K. Rhythm & Blues
vocalists headlining. Looking forward to meeting up with the many
friends I've made at these events - see you there.
NORTH STAFFORD HOTEL, STOKE 9th to
12th NOVEMBER 2012
A sell-out last year at a
venue that has a fab ballroom/function. Check out Boogaloo's website for

Russell 'Hitman' Alexander, re. his gig
at Warners Blues Event, Nidd Hall, September 2006:
"Now I'm not a big fan of DJs (don't get me started about the work
we've lost to some guy with a laptop of pre-programmed music who thinks
he's a musical artist - damn, I said don't get me started!). But
the DJ/MC there, Chris Powers, was something completely different.
First off, he actually spun records. Secondly they weren't just
any records. Original 45s and 78s of Elmore James, LaVerne Baker,
Slim Harpo - ever seen that before? He started collecting blues
and R&B in the early 60's, and he's got an incredible collection.
Plus, he really loves and respects the music and the artists - and
doesn't hesitate to show it. I hope I will meet more DJs like that
as time goes by".
Quote from Paul Jones, BBC Radio 2, with details of Warners Boogaloo Weekend:
"..... and there's also
Chris Powers doing his usual wonderful stuff"
Comments from the Punters...
Alan Harvey at Warners Blues Event, Bodelwyddan Hall, April 2004:
"..... Chris was a superb MC/DJ and played some superb records ....."
Dave M. at Warners Blues Event, Nidd Hall,
"..... the niggles? Just two - firstly I appreciate that Chris
Powers has an excellent collection of obscure, rare vinyl recordings,
but all of my party were unanimous that we would have preferred to
listen to cover versions that made the numbers popular - is that
Sue Whitford at Warners Blues Event, Nidd Hall, September 2004:
"..... Although Chris Powers is not to everyone's taste, I for one rate
him as the best M.C. so far. His knowledge of original and obscure
tracks along with his presentation was superb. We all know the
popular versions but to have an insight into the history and songwriters
of classic blues artists was tremendous".
Malc Mirwood at Warners Blues Event, Nidd Hall, September 2004:
"..... rest of the bands very enjoyable, but best of all this weekend
..... Chris Powers - what a great selection of music, this man knows his
stuff, everything from Benny Spellman to Sugar Pie De Santo".
Alan Duckworth at Warners Blues Event, Bodelwyddan Castle, April 2008:
"Great weekend at the castle. Family Style and Robi Zonca were
excellent, Italian blues eh! Well done to Jack the Biscuit and Chris
Powers for holding it all together".
